Liberty Bell Quilts celebrated a Grand Opening Labor Day Weekend after a few weeks of a soft opening in August 2008. The former shop in this location, Liberty Quilt Shop, closed in April 2008 after selling all the inventory. In June 2008 I consulted with the previous owners, decided to retire from my job as a social worker for the State of Michigan and began planning for Liberty Bell Quilts. I retired effective August 1, 2008 and started my new career in downtown Cedar, MI. Why Cedar? My grandparents, Joseph Miller and Frances Bugai, grew up in Cedar in the late 1800’s so I have always felt a strong connection to Cedar during the years I grew up in the Detroit area and later moved to Traverse City. After replacing the inventory in August (a frantic buying spree) the shop was ready to open and meet the former and new customers who like to quilt or sew creative projects. We now have a full inventory including a wide variety of Moda fabrics from several collections. We also carry many Westminster products such as Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett, Free Spirit, In The Beginning and Benartex. In addition to quilting fabrics, we have felted wool in a rainbow of luscious colors with patterns to bring out the creative spirit in anyone. Counted cross stitch, embroidery and punch needle patterns and supplies can also be found at Liberty Bell Quilts. A Creative Workshop, complete with 4 top of the line machines, cutting tables, ironing station, rulers, rotary cutters and thread is available for a small fee per hour or free on Thursdays. We are here to inspire, support, and enhance your stitching experience. |
